What to Grow in April!

Hi Garden Friend,

The weather lately has been perfect for gardening. Don't miss out on planting your spring favorites before it gets too hot! Here are some tips to help you get started!

1. Plan ahead: Before you start planting, take some time to plan out your garden. Two ways to start planning your garden:

  • The LGS Garden Planner will help you map out your garden, create a planting plan, monitor seed-starting progress from beginning to end, maintain watering and fertilizing schedules, pest tracking, document plant requirements, keep track of your favorite garden recipes, and manage your budget for supplies effortlessly.
  • The Central Texas Monthly Planting Guide will tell you what to plant bi-weekly each month of the year by seed and by plants.
  • Don't make these common raised bed garden mistakes.

2. Prepare your soil: Healthy soil is the foundation of a successful garden. Start by clearing away any debris and adding some compost to existing beds to enrich the soil. Or if you are starting brand new, learn what soil mix is best for raised beds.

3. Choose your plants: April is the perfect time to plant a variety of vegetables, such as tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and squash. Herbs like basil, thyme, and rosemary are also great options, as well as flowers like zinnias, petunias, and marigolds.

4. Water wisely: Learn about 5 different ways to water your garden and pick one that works best for you and your garden.

5. Protect your plants: Keep an eye out for pests and diseases that can harm your plants. Use natural pest control methods like companion planting, Grow Arber Organic Outdoor Kit, and insecticidal soap to keep your garden healthy.
