What to Grow in November 🌱

Hi Garden Friend,

As the weather cools, our Zone 9 gardens are still primed for growth! November is the perfect month for cold hardy vegetables, herbs, and even some colorful flowers. Let’s dig in!

What to Plant in November in Zone 9 (full blog link)

1. Leafy Greens:
Now’s a great time to plant your favorite greens! Lettuces, spinach, and kale thrive in cooler weather, so you'll be harvesting vibrant, fresh leaves for your winter salads in no time.

2. Root Vegetables:
Consider adding radishes, carrots, and beets. These root crops are hardy and can be directly sown in the garden for easy, delicious results later this season.

3. Herbs for Fall and Winter:
Herbs like cilantro, dill, and chives can handle the chill and bring a fresh flavor to your kitchen. Planting these now means you’ll have aromatic, homegrown herbs right at hand.

4. Bright Blooms:
Add some seasonal color with calendula, chamomile, and pansies. These flowers don’t just brighten your garden; they also attract beneficial insects, which is a win-win!

Tip of the Month:
Keep an eye on nighttime temperatures! If a frost is expected, consider covering tender young plants to keep them safe. Garden blankets, row covers, or even a light sheet can make a difference. Learn more about frost protection. Here are frost protection products I recommend.
