What to Grow in August in Zones 8 & 9

Hi Garden Friend!

I hope this email finds you and your gardens doing well! As we dive into the heart of summer, it's time to roll up our sleeves and give our gardens some extra love and care. Here are your August gardening tasks and tips:

  • Water Wisely: With the hot weather, it's essential to water your plants effectively. Water deeply in the early morning or late evening to prevent evaporation. Keep an eye on container plants as they can dry out quickly.
  • Beat the Heat: If you're in a scorching climate like Texas, consider providing some shade to more delicate plants. Shade cloth or strategically placed umbrellas can be a lifesaver!
  • Use compost to help mulch and add nutrition for your vegetable plants.
  • Plan for Fall: August is a great time to start planning and preparing for your autumn garden. Think about what veggies and flowers you want to grow, and order seeds accordingly. I love Renee's Garden and Botanical Interests.
  • Pest: Keep a watchful eye out for any unwanted pests. Early detection and intervention can save your plants from potential damage.
