Fall planters, cozy soups & what to plant right now

Hi Garden Friend!

Fall is one of my favorite times in the garden. The weather is finally starting to cool down, there’s plenty we can still plant, and somehow a warm bowl of soup tastes even better after a day spent outside.

So this week, I pulled together a few of my favorite fall garden ideas (plus two cozy recipes!) to help you enjoy the season.

CREATE AN EDIBLE FALL PLANTER

I love a pretty fall planter, but it doesn’t have to be filled with just mums! Mix in herbs, leafy greens, and other cool-season favorites and you’ll have a planter that looks beautiful AND gives you something fresh to harvest.

KEEP GROWING FRESH HERBS

Don’t give up on your herb garden just because summer is over! There are quite a few herbs that love the cooler temperatures of fall and can even keep growing through a mild winter. Cilantro, parsley, and dill are a few of my favorites to grow this time of year.

PLANT ONIONS FROM SEED

If onions are on your garden list, fall is a great time to get them started. Growing onions from seed takes a little patience, but getting the timing right now can mean beautiful bulbs later.

AND SOMETHING COZY FOR DINNER...

After working in the fall garden, soup sounds pretty perfect.

Try my Easy Butternut Squash & Carrot Soup for a smooth, cozy fall meal.

Or make this hearty Sweet Potato, Kale & White Bean Soup when you want something filling enough for dinner.

Happy fall gardening!

Hi Garden Friend, As the temperatures start climbing, one of the most common questions I get is some version of: "Am I watering my garden right?" The honest answer? It depends — on your setup, your climate, your soil, and what you're growing. But getting it right makes a huge difference in how happy and healthy your plants are all season long. I put together a full guide on the 5 different ways to water your vegetable garden, and I want to share the highlights with you here. THE 5 WATERING...

Hi Garden Friend! I’ve built a lot of raised beds over the years — for my own garden and for clients — and I can tell you this… Not all materials are created equal. Some look great at first and then fall apart way too fast. Some are cheap upfront but end up costing more because you’re replacing them. And some are just not something I’d feel good growing food in. If you’re thinking about building a raised bed (or redoing one), I put everything I’ve learned into this post: 👉 The Best Materials...
